Fund Commissioner's correspondence, primarilly with former Commissioners of Public Works, contractors and engineers on internal improvement projects, Governor, Auditor of Public Accounts, General Assembly, holders of state bonds and state agents appointed to sell bonds and make interest payments principally concerns delivery of supplies and completion of Northern Cross Railroad; lease or sale of railroads and other property; settlement of accounts with contractors; sale, surrender or cancellation of state bonds and other indebtedness; and replacement of lost scrip or bonds with duplicate certificates. Also included is small amount of Governor Thomas Ford's correspondence received or sent as Ex Officio Fund Commissioner.

Thomas Ford (1800-1850), Democratic Governor of Illinois (1842-1846), was born at Uniontown, Pa., on Dec. 5, 1800. He accompanied his widowed mother to Missouri in 1804 and then to Monroe Co., Ill.
